Brush - Oral Health Education

Brush Your Teeth

Children learn about the many jobs their teeth have and how important their teeth are. Proper brushing, visiting the dentist, and choosing nutritious foods for healthy teeth are emphasized. Using a larger than life set of teeth, children practice brushing and choose which foods to feed “Mr. Big Mouth” and “Mr. Yuck Mouth.”

Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Prevention

NEW – Habit Free for Me

Students are given facts about maintaining their health, which encourages them to make healthy choices daily resulting in lifelong habits. A brief introduction to the effects of alcohol, tobacco and the misuse of prescription medications is discussed to help children understand why choosing to be free of a drug habit is truly important. Age appropriate life skills including choosing role models, sleeping, eating healthy foods, exercising, holding a positive attitude, and learning how to refuse a drug are also be explored.   A role-playing segment on how to refuse a drug is included.

Students become enlightened decision-makers regarding drugs. Through this program, the effect that drugs have on the body is demonstrated by observing plastinated human organs. While trying on our “drunk driving” goggles, students discover how difficult even simple tasks can be when the nervous system is altered by a drug.

The News About Booze

Students are provided information about the dangers of alcohol abuse in a “fact versus fiction” discussion. Alcohol abuse is a common factor in the three leading causes of death for youth. The effects of short and long term alcohol abuse are demonstrated using plastinated human organs and activities such as the drunk driving goggles.

General Health

My Sensational Senses

Students learn many facts about the sense organs. Volunteers participate in activities to earn clues which identify the four keys to being healthy: eating well, sleeping, exercising, and being happy. When taught at McMillen Health, TAM (Transparent Anatomical Mannequin) will teach students about the heart, lungs and brain.

Every ‘Body’ Changes

Students learn the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty. Topics include secondary sexual characteristics, emotional changes, personal hygiene, conception, and the benefits of abstinence. Participation in this program promotes self-respect and respect of others. Every ‘Body’ Changes will cover both males and females and the topic of menstruation within the 45 minute program. This program may be taught with boys and girls together or separated.
