Brush - Oral Health Education

Brush Your Teeth

Children learn about the many jobs their teeth have and how important their teeth are. Proper brushing, visiting the dentist, and choosing nutritious foods for healthy teeth are emphasized. Using a larger than life set of teeth, children practice brushing and choose which foods to feed “Mr. Big Mouth” and “Mr. Yuck Mouth.”

Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Prevention

NEW – Habit Free for Me

Students are given facts about maintaining their health, which encourages them to make healthy choices daily resulting in lifelong habits. A brief introduction to the effects of alcohol, tobacco and the misuse of prescription medications is discussed to help children understand why choosing to be free of a drug habit is truly important. Age appropriate life skills including choosing role models, sleeping, eating healthy foods, exercising, holding a positive attitude, and learning how to refuse a drug are also be explored.   A role-playing segment on how to refuse a drug is included.

The News About Booze

Students are provided information about the dangers of alcohol abuse in a “fact versus fiction” discussion. Alcohol abuse is a common factor in the three leading causes of death for youth. Every ‘Body’ Changes

Students learn the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty. Parenting: A Reality Check

Students receive a “reality check” concerning the responsibilities of parenting. To demonstrate the physical demands of pregnancy, a volunteer wears an empathy belly. A male and a female volunteer will be selected as a “teenage married couple with a baby” who will illustrate the financial responsibilities of parenthood. Information about the Safe Haven law is included as are the effects of alcohol/drugs on the unborn baby.

This program illuminates the positive and negative attributes of the internet that students may experience while online. Students learn ways to stay safe while being online, including how to make strong passwords and protect personal information. Students learn the different aspects of digital citizenship, otherwise known as responsible technology use, to help improve their overall presence online.  Learning strategies demonstrate how to create an effective password and how to use products such as cell phones, webcams, and social media in a positive way.  Cyberbullying and ways to recognize, prevent, and stop online bullying are discussed.  Children are able to learn about their ‘digital footprint’ and discuss ways to maintain a positive online reputation.
